TAIPAN TONE Tone Bar (String Ferrel Block)

I happened across this modification a few years ago when I picked up a Godin LG -P90 at a good price. One day while changing the strings I pulled out the thin brass plate (.12 thick) that Godin uses. The pocket that they put in for it is .50 wide and .40 deep give or take how much paint they had in there. I went into my shop and grabbed a 1/2 square piece of brass and machined a new thicker one up and put it back together. That guitar that was pretty good came alive. I just could not believe the difference it made. Neither could anyone that had heard it before. Then one day while I was changing the strings on my Tele I was looking at the string ferrules and thought about the improvements I experienced with my Godin. I figured, why not give it a try. The difference the Tone Bar made over the stock string ferrules in that Tele was astounding. I now install them in all my guitars that I build or purchase.

I started to test different materials (6061 Aluminum, 1080 Cold Roll Steel and 304 Stainless Steel). and found that they all provided the same superior improvement over the stock string ferrule but because of the different material composition their affect on the frequences varied allowing you to tweak and lean the guitar to a desired tone to suit your playing style, alter and improve your current guitars weaknesses.

Although Brass is our standard go to material. Here is how you can expect the different materials to affect your tone:

Brass = balanced tone across low, mid and high freqs.

304 Stainless Steel = increases mid freqs.

CRS Steel = increases mid and high freqs.

Aluminum = decreases mids and increases high freqs.

Once you install one of the TAIPAN TONE Tone Bars you will experience one of the most influencal improvements you can make on your guitar. You will be startled at the difference. Your string to string definition and clarity that you experience in chording and soloing will amaze you. You will also benefit from the increase in sustain they will provide.
